  • Servidor: Linux;
  • Clientes: vários computadores conectados à mesma rede local;
  • Objetivo: instalar o sistema operacional nos computadores clientes pela rede;

1. Prepare the Installation Media

  • Download an ISO: Get a server operating system image, such as Ubuntu Server or Debian.
  • Create a Bootable USB: Use a tool like BalenaEtcher or Rufus on another computer to flash the downloaded .iso file onto a USB flash drive (minimum 4GB). [1, 2, 3]

2. Boot the Server

  • Connect Hardware: Plug the bootable USB into your server. Attach a monitor and keyboard (or use a remote management console like iDRAC, iLO, or BMC for dedicated data center hardware). [1, 2]
  • Access Boot Menu: Turn on the server and press the manufacturer’s boot key (commonly F12, F11, F8, or Esc) to open the boot menu, then select the USB drive. [1, 2]

3. Run the Installer

  • Language and Network: Select your preferred language, keyboard layout, and configure your network settings (DHCP is automatic, or set a static IPv4 address). [1]
  • Partition Disks: Choose Use an entire disk for a simple layout, or select Manual partitioning if you prefer a custom scheme (like separating /boot and /). [1, 2]
  • Create User Profile: Enter your name, server hostname, username, and a strong password. [1, 2]
  • Install Essential Services: Make sure to select and check the option to Install OpenSSH server so you can manage the machine remotely later. [1, 2]

4. Complete and Reboot

  • Finish Installation: Allow the installer to write changes and copy files. Once finished, select the Reboot option.
  • Disconnect and Connect: Unplug the USB drive, monitor, and keyboard. Move the server to its permanent location, connect the Ethernet cable, and power it on.
  • Access via SSH: Log into your new server from another computer on the network using ssh username@server_ip_address
