É o seguinte após uma a atulização Hoje kernel final 42 não consigo mais usar o sistema só aparece rapidamente o ponteiro do mouse mas logo em seguida a tela fica preta o teclado também para de funcionar, ao apertar a o botão de desligar o notebook só aprece aquela tela de despedida escrito xubuntu. O aparelho em questão é notebook acer processador amd APU E-350 o problema parece ser somente no xubuntu pois no ubuntu a atualização não causou o mesmo problema só que esse computador é muito lento com ubuntu,no momento conseguir usar com o driver genérico mas ele não dá uma resolução boa

Obrigado por ajudar Deleterium! as vezes o computador inicia normal mas com muita insistência mas levando até 36 minutos tentando dar boot e desligando e religando tentei usar o kernel 26 que era anterior ao problema mas por algum motivo ficou com mesmo sintoma.

Pesquisei as mensagens e não achei algo definitivo. Pode ser algum conflito de configuração do lightdm e do polkit.
Acho que uma solução paliativa é adicionar o seu usuário com login automático. Daí o lightdm vai autorizar o início da sessão direto.
Também não sei direito como fazer isso no Xubuntu… No linux Mint Cinnamon se abrir em “Configurações” -> “Janela de início de sessão” vai abrir uma janela onde vc pode selecionar isso.
Eu conferi e o comando pra vc abrir a mesma janela, caso não ache a configuração, é:
sudo lightdm-settings
Tive o mesmo problema ao instalar tanto o Xubuntu quanto o ZorinOS lite. Ambos com problemas semelhantes ao que você descreveu. Baixei a iso, rebaixei a iso, verifiquei o sha256, testei o mesmo instalador em outro computador e tudo normal, aqui menciono vagamente o problema e descreve como fiz para resolver:
Resumindo, entrei no modo de recuperação, liberei o espaço, reparei pacotes quebrados e reiniciei o computador. Deixava iniciar até travar, apertava Ctrl + Alt + F1 ou F2 ou F3… para abrir o modo texto e dava update e upgrade. Após a atualização reiniciava novamente.
Acabei ficando com o ZorinOS Lite pois ficou muito mais estável, tendo em vista que mesmo após o procedimento descrito acima, vez ou outra ele travava na inicialização, hora não reconhecia o audio, hora a rede não funcionava e etc…
Só para constar, no meu caso, testei outras distros mas somente nessas duas tive esses problemas, creio que seja algum problema devido ao driver da Nvidia, pois no ZorinOS lite, ao instalar sem os drivers proprietários funcionou sem problema algum.
Liguei agora estou pensando em deixar o login automático, mas antes tentarei configurar o lightdm, percebi que é algum problema em conjunto com driver de vídeo e outras interfaces. No teclado ele trava não aceita comando até a luz do num lock não responde ao apertar-lo, ontem quando reinstalei o Xubuntu quando atualizou também drive gráfico nesse kernel final 42. Quando entro no modo de recuperação dá boot normal mas com resolução da tela baixa e quando o meu monitor está conectado ao notebook as janelas e ícones ficam todo colorido, agora fiquei 30 minutos insistindo a tela piscou umas vezes e entrou a tela de login estou conseguindo usar neste momento, quando eu estava usando o ubuntu não tive esse problema, mas quando o notebook entrava em suspensão demorava muito para entrar na tela de login e chegou a travar uma vez mas no boot nunca deu problema.
Falou michell! teve uma vez aqui que alto falante chegou até fazer um barulho de bip só que continuo, Vou tentar a partir 6, já tentei os passos anteriores mas com o teclado travando fica complicado no meu caso dpkg não funcionou e não surgiu nenhuma atualização que corrija o problema, já estava pesquisando sobre isso nos fóruns, mas não achei nada.
Não sei exatamente qual o passo resolveu meu problema, acredito que tenha sido a atualização mas, de qualquer forma, para mim o Xubuntu não rolou. Gostaria de estar utilizando ele, pois gosto da Canonical e da luta que ela vem desenvolvendo a muitos anos pelo linux, mas, no meu caso em específico, esse problema me fez ir para o ZorinOS lite, talvez seja uma opção para você também, quem sabe ele não seja uma boa e resolva seu problema. Qualquer coisa você também pode tentar o aptitude para tentar corrigir alguma eventual quebra de pacote ou reinstalação se for o caso e se achar uma solução para seu problema, compartilhe aqui para ajudar quem estiver com o mesmo problema.
Deleterium Infelizmente colocar para entrar no sistema sem uso de senha não funcionou. acho que o sistema não está completando o processo de boot.

instale outro gerenciador de login. O xdm é o mais simples de todos (e mais feio também), mas vai que funciona!
sudo apt install xdm
Vai aparecer uma janela dizendo que apenas um gerenciador de login pode rodar, daí vc escolhe o xdm e depois reinicia o computador.
[resolvido] Obrigado Deleterium eMichel pela ajuda. A instalação do xdm resolveu bem na instalação nova do xubuntu, também resolveu na antiga mas o sistema demora um pouco para chegar na tela de login, a diferença que na instalação nova ao instalar o Xdm eu removi o lightdm, não sei se isso fez a diferença. A solução apresentada ajudou no meu caso.

Que bom que resolveu! Se vc quiser tentar outro gerenciador de login que que é mais moderno pode tentar:
sudo apt install lxdm
A qualquer momento que vc queira alternar entre os gerenciadores instalados, use:
dpkg-reconfigure xdm
dpkg-reconfigure lxdm

O que aconteceu minha instalação antiga começou a a não querer entrar no sistema novamente entrei no modo de recuperação removi o xdm quando ele deu boot ficou na tela de login em texto então dei o comando startx ele voltou iniciar pode ser outra outra solução para quem passar pelo mesmo problema.
